John Barnes

Project Management

In John’s 20 years with the company, he has focused on making sure our customers’ experiences are at the highest levels of satisfaction, that their projects are positioned for success. To that end, he is heavily involved in pre-construction and the due diligence of most projects. John earned a degree in Construction Management from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and his areas of expertise include projects in healthcare, tenant interiors, retail, banking, telecommunications, and other commercial industries. Rick Schaffel

Project Management

Rick specializes in the healthcare sector and his projects run the gamut from replacements of large-scale medical equipment to full gut OR renovations. An expert at scheduling and coordinating work in the healthcare environment, Rick has a tremendous track record of completing projects both on schedule and without interruption to patient care and safety. Rick prefers a team-oriented approach for project delivery and utilizes his superior leadership and communication skills to guide projects to completion. Rick has been with the company since 2005 and holds a bachelor’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. View LinkedIn profile.


Tom Barnes

Lead Advisor / MEP Coordinator

As the founder of TCB Builders, Tom established the attention to detail and client retention values that still drive TCB today. Tom assists in MEP coordination and pre-construction due diligence for key projects. Tom’s areas of expertise include estimating, project management, budgeting analysis and feasibility studies. He is frequently the team member who interfaces one-on-one with clients and during the early stages of a project. He began his career in his father’s company and has been in the construction business for over 50 years.


Tom Sauter

Lead Superintendent

Tom is TCB Builders’ expert in carpentry, cabinetry, office improvements, hospital, retail and restaurant work. During his long tenure years with TCB, he has served as lead project manager, lead superintendent, carpenter, and assistant project manager for all of our clients. Tom is certified to work with all solid surface materials, including Corian®, Avonite, Formica, and Wilsonart. View LinkedIn profile.


John Ho


John is responsible for TCB’s financial operations, including accounts payable and billing. His experience in the financial field is extensive, ranging from the construction business to a global insurance brokerage. John graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, majoring in Accounting. He is a numbers guy who prides himself on his organizational skills and attention to detail. John is constantly staying on the forefront of the latest technology and always looking for new ways to improve productivity for TCB.


Matthew DeGroot

Field Superintendent

Matthew DeGroot is a fourth generation carpenter with excellent attention to detail and years of construction experience.


Jon Peterson

Field Superintendent

Jon is a Journeyman carpenter with a background in residential and commercial construction. Jon has now been a carpenter for over 10 years and have specialized in all aspects of building from structural retrofits, to concrete construction, to interior framing, to high end finish carpentry. Jon has both office and field experience and has worked as both a project engineer on the office side, as well as a carpenter foreman/superintendent on the field side. Jon believes a positive attitude and a desire to learn and listen are the most effective ways to motivate people and to create a safe productive work environment. View LinkedIn profile.

Edie Pignati

Office Manager

“I’m here to help everybody!” is Edie’s mantra. She performs many roles in the company, including accounts payable, invoicing, subcontractor billings, and assisting other team members with their projects. Another important task she fulfills is taking care of subcontractors’ certificates of insurance. Edie has been with TCB Builders for 34 years.


Shirleen Balistreri

Office Assistant

Shirleen first worked for TCB Builders from 2002-2006. In 2014, after a hiatus to care for her children, she joined the TCB family once again as an office assistant. Beyond handling daily office tasks, Shirleen assists Edie with accounts payable, invoicing, subcontractor billing and provides project management support for the TCB team. She also helps maintain and keep track of subcontractors’ certificates of insurance.
